Mental health significantly influences the development and management of obesity, with a complex, bidirectional relationship between mental and physical health. Various mental health conditions, such as stress and depression, can lead to overeating, while existing overweight issues can influence mental health conditions. Traditionally, obesity is addressed through diet, exercise, and medical intervention. However, many people experience fluctuations in their progress because mental health interventions are often missing from their treatment plans.
The Texas School of Mental Health is a pioneer in conceptualizing the role of mental health in obesity and has developed a therapeutic approach that integrates mental health with diet and exercise. TSMH offers psychological counseling services at our Center for Mental Fitness and provides educational programs on obesity and mental health.
