Mental health during pregnancy is crucial for the well-being of both the mother and the developing baby. Pregnancy brings about significant hormonal, physical, and emotional changes that can impact a woman's mental and physical health. As expectant mothers navigate the uncertainties and demands of pregnancy, factors such as hormonal fluctuations, previous mental health history, and the stress of impending motherhood can contribute to mental health conditions. Additionally, changes in lifestyle, dietary habits, addictions, the increasing number of working women, career-related ambitions, and other issues can affect the physical and mental health of pregnant women.
The Texas School of Mental Health recognizes the important role of mental health interventions during pregnancy and has developed specialized services to address pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, and post-pregnancy mental health needs. TSMH offers individual and couple mental health services at our Centre for Mental Fitness and has designed specialized educational programs focused on pregnancy and mental health.
