Excellence Awards Presented by Texas School of Mental Health Recognize Pioneers in Integrative Cancer Care July 13, 2025 – Pune, India
In a landmark celebration of dedication and leadership in cancer care, the Texas School of Mental Health presented the Excellence Awards to two remarkable professionals whose work has significantly advanced the field of psycho-oncology and surgical oncology.
These awards honoured individuals who not only treat the disease but also attend to the emotional and psychological well-being of those affected by cancer — reflecting a growing commitment to integrated, patient-centered care. Visionary Excellence Award in Psycho-Oncology Dr. Tahreen Syed, Director and Global Head of Psycho-Oncology, was conferred the Visionary Excellence Award for her groundbreaking work in establishing psycho-oncology as a core discipline.
She played a key role in introducing psycho-oncology into the organization’s framework, advocating for cancer care that acknowledges psychological and emotional well-being. Dr. Syed was instrumental in designing the first-of-its-kind curriculum in psycho-oncology, merging clinical precision with human-centered care, and developed a caregiving module that addresses the complex emotional needs of those supporting patients.
Under her leadership, research initiatives have reached global platforms like IPOS, reflecting her unwavering commitment to integrative cancer care that is both evidence-based and empathetically driven.
Award of Honour – Oncology Dr. Vidita Powle, renowned Head & Neck and Breast Surgical Oncologist, was awarded the Award of Honour for her outstanding service in surgical oncology and education.
With over 15 years of clinical experience, Dr. Powle brings rare expertise in reconstructive and microvascular surgery, ensuring patients receive both advanced treatment and restorative care. A faculty contributor to the Postgraduate Diploma in Psycho-Oncology, she actively mentors emerging professionals and leads public health efforts on early detection and oral cancer awareness.
Her multifaceted contribution reflects a belief that healing extends beyond the operation theatre, combining surgical excellence with a deep sense of community care.
